Whether you’re an experienced traveller or a total novice, planning out a rail trip can be overwhelming.
The EU’s newly announced ‘one journey, one ticket’ proposal should make things a lot easier, but for now, you still have to deal with multiple operators across countries, which can quickly get confusing.
It’s a real barrier to such a sustainable way to get around – and that’s why travel company Byway has just launched a free course teaching people how to do it for themselves.
While it might seem counterintuitive for a company that specialises in booking personalised trips by land and sea for travellers, CEO Cat Jones says the company’s mission is to make no-fly travel mainstream.

What’s included in the course
The 10-lesson email course, which includes step-by-step videos as well as write-ups, covers everything you need to know about booking a trip by rail.
It includes things like which Interrail or Eurail pass is best for you, how to find rail-friendly accommodation, and how to create a journey guide to manage any unwieldy itineraries.
Plus, it also covers what to do should your journey be disrupted, and how to get your trip back on track.
