In an interview at the end of 2025, with British journalist Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo confided how he asked Georgina Rodriguez, his partner of ten years, to marry him, and spoke about when that might happen.
“I had bought the ring, a friend slipped it into my hand and our daughters saw the moment. They asked me if I was going to ask their mum to marry me and I felt it was the right time to do it,” he said.
When it came to the wedding date, Cristiano deftly sidestepped the question, denying a goal to the thousands of curious fans wondering when the long‑awaited ceremony would be. The captain of the Portuguese national team merely said it would be “after the World Cup, with the champion’s trophy”. With no trophy, does that mean no wedding?
Once the World Cup was over, with Portugal going no further than the last 16, the buzz around the wedding began to grow. It was already known that Georgina wanted it to be “private” and that the weekend of 1 and 2 August was the most likely time for it to take place, since Al-Nassr start their season on 13 September and the star would be heading back to the club to begin training.
The media then started making their own preparations for the wedding. As Cristiano Ronaldo and his family had been spending a lot of time in the municipality of Cascais, where the player is building a house, rumours surfaced that the wedding might be held at the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, as reported by Portuguese TV show “V+ Fama” on TVI.
Previously, a local newspaper in Madeira had already claimed the wedding would be on the island. Several reports suggested the island’s cathedral had been booked for the occasion, as well as another luxury hotel.
On 28 July, Cristiano Ronaldo posted a photo with his children on their way to his private jet, which fuelled speculation that the wedding would be on a Balearic island or, perhaps, on a private plane hired just for the occasion. It was not. It turned out to be just a holiday trip to Palma de Mallorca.
The journalistic digging by some outlets into the wedding plans went so far that even the schedule of artist Luan Santana, a Brazilian singer Cristiano Ronaldo is very fond of, was scrutinised, and it was concluded there were no concerts booked for that particular weekend. The theory is that the singer would be hired to perform at Cristiano and Georgina’s wedding.
However, to cool some of the heated excitement, the Aveiro sisters poured cold water on things by saying that the wedding was not going to happen just yet.
“There is no date set. This year I won’t be wearing a wedding dress, not for myself and not for him,” revealed the younger sister, Katia Aveiro, to Portuguese magazine TV7 Dias, during the launch of a new collection from her brand.
Elma Aveiro, the older sister, said that the wedding had been postponed and that she did not know how her brother and future sister-in-law were planning new dates.
Some still believe these comments were a way of throwing people off the scent and that the wedding could actually be taking place as we write this article. Could it be? If so, it has been the best‑kept secret in history.
From Gucci to the 37‑carat oval diamond
The story of Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez began in 2016.
The couple met in a Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina worked as a sales assistant. They later bumped into each other again at other events and began dating discreetly.
At first, they tried to keep the romance out of the public eye, but in January 2017 they went public with their relationship when they appeared together for the first time at the FIFA awards ceremony.
In June 2017, twins Eva and Mateo were born via surrogacy, as had already been the case with Cristiano Jr. A month later, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez announced they were expecting their first child together.
In November 2017, Alana Martina was born. Over that period, Georgina also took on a central role in the lives of Cristiano Jr., Eva and Mateo.
In August 2025, the couple announced their engagement, after almost nine years together.
The announcement was made on social media on 11 August, with Georgina posting the striking ring with the caption: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives,” she wrote.
The ring also became a focus of attention for the international press, which sought out jewellery experts to estimate its value. The 30‑carat ring is thought to be worth between 2 and 4.5 million euros.
Throughout their relationship, Georgina has followed Ronaldo through his various club moves, from leaving Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018, to his return to Manchester United in 2021, and his transfer to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
Along the way, the couple also faced defining moments, such as the tax fraud case involving the footballer and the rape allegation he faced.
In October 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez revealed that they were expecting twins. Months later, in April 2022, the couple announced that their son had died during childbirth. His twin sister, Bella Esmeralda, was born healthy.
