Haro in northern Spain is covered in red as thousands take part in the town’s annual wine battle in La Rioja.

Armed with buckets, hoses and spray bottles, revellers soak each other with wine in the streets.

As the day goes on, people climb the hill and gather at viewpoints for photos, group shots and a moment to rest. At the top, visitors pose by statues and wave flags.

The festival mixes chaos and celebration, with music, dancing and constant splashes of wine creating a lively atmosphere.
