Humans are not the only ones struggling in the heat — laptops, phones and other devices are overheating too.

Here is how you can protect your gadgets from the heat.

1. Keep it out of the sunlight

Technology should be kept in the shade. Though it sounds simple, taking your phone out when with friends and leaving it on a table or using it when you are out and about is best avoided. Even a few minutes of direct sunlight on your phone can overheat it.

2. Do not put your devices in the fridge

While putting your phones or laptops in the freezer or refrigerator may seem like a good idea, it can damage them just as much as direct sunlight.

Firstly, it can create a thermal shock and even break the device, and it poses a high risk to batteries. Fridges and freezers are also humid, which could cause water to run into your gadgets.

3. Keep your room cool

Keep yourself cool as well as your devices. You could run a fan or air conditioning, block windows from direct sunlight and hang your washing. All the usual things to make yourself feel cooler will help your computers and phones.

4. Be careful of energy use

Do not ask too much of your phones or laptops during bouts of high heat. The same as you do not want to overexert yourself.

Streaming, gaming and AI can cause your devices to work harder, which generates more heat. Even charging and the amount of light your device uses can play a role. The general advice is to be mindful of what you really need to do on your device.

You could even put on battery saver mode to limit app functionality. Taking short breaks and switching off for short moments can also help.

5. Remove covers and cases

As with humans, your devices can also benefit from fewer layers. Cases, covers and other accessories can prevent airflow. Just be careful not to drop your phone or laptop.
