Qatar has urged an end to the Iran war and a return to negotiations on Tuesday, saying it is in contact with all parties as uncertainty surrounds US-Iran talks in Islamabad.

“The crisis is ours, and the crisis of our region. That’s why we have direct contacts,” foreign ministry spokesperson Dr Majed al-Ansari said at a press conference in Doha.

Al-Ansari added that Qatar supports maintaining the ceasefire as uncertainty remains over whether talks are moving forward.

“Our call has only been to end this war and return to the negotiation table,” he said. “Qatar supports the continuation of the ceasefire until there’s a diplomatic resolution. We are hearing contradicting reports and we are quite concerned.”

“We do not want to talk about the failure of the negotiations,” al-Ansari said. “The entire world is supporting these negotiations, including us. And we are supporting our brothers in Pakistan.”

Global risks from Hormuz disruption

Uncertainty over the talks comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain unresolved, raising questions about whether diplomacy can deliver a more lasting outcome.

Qatar has also warned that any prolonged disruption could carry consequences beyond the region, even as it says it can withstand potential shocks.

“Today, this closure is felt at the level of homes, and the electricity that goes to these houses in countries thousands of kilometres away from this area,” Al Ansari said, pointing to the wider impact on global energy flows.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for international oil and gas shipments, has become a focal point of rising tensions, with any disruption closely watched by global markets.

Doha has repeatedly stressed that a broader diplomatic solution is needed, warning that a return to escalation would pose risks not only to the region but also to the wider international economy.
