Around 300 people gathered in Davos to protest the World Economic Forum and the planned appearance of US President Donald Trump.

The demonstration took place as the alpine resort prepared to host global political and business leaders next week.

Protesters criticised both the WEF and Swiss authorities for welcoming US President Donald Trump.

Nathalie Ruoss, vice president of the Young Socialists Switzerland, said hosting figures like Trump was unacceptable.

In Bern, a separate unauthorised protest was swiftly broken up. Police deployed in large numbers and sealed off the city centre to prevent further gatherings.
