Rome’s Emperor Tiberius may have draped himself in pink-coloured garments, while others viciously sniped and critiqued what those in power wore.
A new exhibition at Copenhagen’s Glyptoteket museum is exploring the close links between power and fashion in the Roman Empire around 2,000 years ago.
‘The Power of Fashion in the Roman Empire’ brings together 2000-year-old Roman sculptures, rare surviving tunics, jewellery and footwear, alongside reconstructed colours and ancient perfume scents. Visitors can also hear Roman gossip and insults at listening stations.
The exhibition runs until 29 March 2027.
